After graduating from Boston University with degrees in journalism and psychology, she bounced around various newspapers in Florida, and then settled in the Tampa Bay area in 2003, when she got a job with the St. Pete Times.  In summer 2008, she started LocalShops1.com to help put the spotlight on local, independent businesses.

LocalShops1.com is the largest network of local, independent businesses in Tampa Bay and Manatee-Sarasota. The web directory promotes its member businesses online, in print, in the community, through social media and online marketing as well as traditional print advertising, grassroots campaigns and store promotions.

Linda Burhans, Author, Master Networker and Founder, Life is Good!

It is readily apparent when you meet Linda Burhans and see how she conducts her business affairs in the Tampa Bay area that her personal mission is “To acknowledge and appreciate all people.” With over 30 years experience in leadership positions in corporate America, she now is one of Tampa Bay’s leading women entrepreneurs. As founder and CEO of The Party Crew, Inc., Founder of The Dave Game and CEO of SendACard123.com, she lives her mission daily.

In 2002, Linda turned her focus on assisting others to improve relationships. Hence, Professional Women Empower, a non-profit organization was born. The group’s mission was, “to provide support to women through guidance, vision and passion.” Under Linda’s direction, women were motivated and inspired to be the best they could be while contributing to their community. PWP was put to rest after four successful years.

Inspired by her father, David McCauley, Linda desired to start a movement of sharing and compassion that was far-reaching. When Linda learned of World Kindness Week she knew this was exactly the type of cause she was searching for. She started “The Dave Game” to extend World Kindness Week to include 365 days a year. By basing it online, www.thedavegame.com, it opened it up to potential kind deeds around the world. Linda is often heard saying “Play It Forward” and “everyone wins who plays The Dave Game”.

As CEO of SendACard123.com, Linda provides a unique service that simplifies the process of meaningful mailed communications, enhancing and improving both personal and business relationships. The company sends high quality cards to clients, friends and family for a nominal fee. The tedious job of printing, stuffing envelopes and mailing just became as easy as 123 with a couple of clicks of your mouse. It is obvious that this falls right in with her mission.

Look for Linda’s book “Goodnight and God Bless”, a collection of wonderful memories of her loving mother recently released. The book is a humorous and heartfelt story to inspire and assist anyone with the challenge of being the caregiver to a loved one.

As examples, her work in commercial development helped pioneer an award-winning model for financing new retail, office and institutional development projects in several of Florida’s inner-city communities; she was central to the team that implemented Florida’s first statewide microbusiness development network (then called MicroEnterprise Florida, a specialty division of Enterprise Florida); and Gypsy is the architect of a new multicultural media platform – print and electronic – that was not only used to launch The Power Broker magazine and e-zine, but which is now being replicated in Miami Dade County, the City of Fort Myers, the City of Bradenton and for a statewide project unveiling in 2010.

The next decade of her career is committed to leveraging this toolkit to create lasting wealth among majority-black communities and coalitions elsewhere in the state and nation.
